Bringing Lessons to Life

During my SEA Teacher program at Tapaz Central Elementary School (TCES), I observed various pedagogical methods and approaches used in the learning process. Here are some key aspects I learned about teaching methods, innovations in learning, resources, and assessment systems at the school.

Teaching Methods

At TCES, teachers use a variety of teaching methods to cater to students' needs, especially in the Grade 2 SSES class where I taught. Some of the methods include:

  • Lecture and Demonstration
Teachers explain the material using textbooks and provide examples on the whiteboard or through visual media such as PowerPoint presentations on the LED TV.

  • Activity-Based Learning
Students actively participate in interactive activities, such as Q&A sessions, storytelling, or educational games.

  • Group Discussions
Students are divided into small groups during group activities, encouraging them to think critically and communicate with their peers.

  • Practice and Independent Assessment
After the lesson, students complete worksheets to assess their understanding of the material taught.

Learning Materials and Innovation

Innovation in learning is highly emphasized at TCES. Teachers use a variety of teaching materials and technology to enhance students' understanding, such as:

  • Textbooks as the primary source of instructional material.

  • LED TV to display visual materials like PowerPoint presentations or videos.

  • Creative Instructional Materials to support learning and help students grasp concepts more easily.

This approach makes learning more engaging and interactive, especially for young students.
