The Key Elements of Teaching
Teaching System
At TCES, the teaching system follows the Philippine National K-12 Curriculum established by the Department of Education (DepEd). This curriculum ensures quality and equitable education for all students.
TCES offers two types of classes:
1.) Special Science Elementary School (SSES): A program for students excelling in science and mathematics.
2.) Regular Classes: The standard academic track for all students.
The teaching approach is student-centered and inclusive. Teachers act as facilitators, guiding and supporting students throughout the learning process. Additionally, the school incorporates core values such as "Maka-Diyos" (faith in God), "Maka-Tao" (humanitarianism), "Maka-Kalikasan" (environmental consciousness), and "Maka-Bansa" (nationalism) to shape students holistically.
Materials and Other Learning Resources
In my Grade 2 SSES classroom at TCES, various learning resources were used to create an engaging and interactive learning environment. These included:
Textbooks: Based on the Philippine National K-12 Curriculum.
Digital Technology: An LED TV in the classroom served as a visual aid for lessons, videos, and illustrations.
Creative Teaching Materials: Instructional tools, such as visual aids and hands-on activities, helped clarify key concepts.
Measurement and Evaluation System
At TCES, student evaluations are conducted using various methods to assess comprehension. While teaching Mathematics in Grade 2 SSES, I used worksheets as an evaluation tool.
After presenting the lesson, I distributed worksheets containing exercises related to the topic. This formative assessment provided immediate feedback, allowing students to correct mistakes and strengthen their understanding before moving on to the next topic.
