My First Teaching Experience at TCES

Before I started teaching, I had to prepare several materials, including a Detailed Lesson Plan (DLP), PowerPoint slides, and instructional materials. With the help of my cooperating teacher, Ma’am Josephine, and my buddies, Galagate ÆÏ Ren I was able to prepare my lesson effectively.

As a Mathematics Education major, I taught Mathematics with the topic Measuring Time for Grade 2 SSES.

Procedures of Teaching

Based on the Detailed Lesson Plan (DLP) I created, I followed these teaching steps:

1. Preliminary Activities

  • Leading the students in prayer.

  • Greeting the students and asking how they are doing.

  • Singing and dancing to an educational song related to the lesson as an energizer.

  • Taking attendance using an interactive song.

  • Reviewing the previous lesson (on patterns) by asking students to draw different patterns.

2. Main Lesson (Motivation, Presentation, Discussion, Generalization, and Application)

  • Using a short story (Jo’s Friend) to introduce the concept of time.

  • Introducing different types of clocks—analog and digital—by showing real-life examples on the screen and using teaching aids.

  • Explaining the difference between the minute hand and the hour hand on an analog clock.

  • Teaching students how to read and write time using both analog and digital clocks.

  • Conducting an interactive exercise where students read and state the time shown on the screen.

  • Organizing a group activity where students match the time on an analog clock with a given time.

3. Closing Activities (Evaluation and Assignment)

  • Summarizing the lesson by comparing analog and digital clocks.

  • Giving an evaluation worksheet to assess student understanding.

  • Ending the lesson with a prayer and reminding students about their homework.
