Learning from the Best Part 1

During my SEA Teacher program at Tapaz Central Elementary School (TCES), I had the opportunity to observe and collaborate with Ma’am Josephine F. Gardose, who served as both the class adviser and my cooperating teacher for Grade 2 SSES. From my observations, she is an experienced educator with effective teaching methods and a deep sense of care for her students. Below are my insights into her teaching approach and how she guides her students.

  

Planning for Teaching

Ma’am Josephine systematically plans her lessons based on the Philippine National K-12 Curriculum. Her lesson planning includes:

  • Aligning with the academic standards set by the Philippine Department of Education (DepEd) to ensure that the material taught meets the required competencies.

  • Selecting teaching methods that match the characteristics of Grade 2 SSES students, who are highly active and require activity-based and hands-on learning approaches.

Preparing Lessons and Materials

To make learning more engaging and interactive, Ma’am Josephine utilizes a variety of resources and teaching media. These include:

  • Textbooks as the primary reference material.

  • LED TV in the classroom to display visual content.

  • Additional teaching materials, either self-made or provided by the school, to enhance students' understanding.

Here are some key aspects I learned about teaching methods, innovations in learning, resources, and assessment systems at the school. Teaching Methods At TCES, teachers use a variety of teaching methods to cater to students' needs, especially in the Grade 2 SSES class where I taught. Some of the methods include: Lecture and Demonstration Teachers explain the material using textbooks and provide examples on the whiteboard or through visual media such as PowerPoint presentations on the LED TV. Exploring Education in the Philippines

During my participation in the SEA Teacher Batch 10 program in the Philippines, I had the opportunity to teach at Tapaz Central Elementary School (TCES). With my background in Mathematics education, I taught the subject with the topic "Measuring Time" to second-grade students at TCES. School Profile Tapaz Central Elementary School (TCES) is a primary school with hundreds of students from grades 1 to 6. The curriculum focuses on developing fundamental skills such as reading, writing, and arithmetic, along with character-building and social values. The atmosphere at TCES is warm and inclusive.
